Pure gaming, i9 9900k. Anything else r9 3900x. But really the difference is not that huge and ,imho, hard core gamers that look at the #'s difference will go intel.
Price/performance wise i give that to amd. Still a fabulous gaming chip and the $$ you save from not getting the i9 one can move that $$ to other better parts of the pc (ram, gpu etc). Both can be overclocked.
